Men's Basketball Senior Day Spotlight: Phoenix Celebrate Sawon, Green, and Chambers
Corona, NY – The Vaughn College men's basketball team fell to Great Bay Community College, 73–64, on Sunday afternoon at the Elmcor Recreation Center, in a game that also marked Senior Day for three graduating Phoenix players. Despite a standout performance from sophomore guard Nathaniel Edwards, the Phoenix were unable to overcome Great Bay's balanced scoring and interior efficiency.
Senior Day Recognition
Before tip‑off, the Vaughn College Athletics Department honored three graduating student‑athletes:
- Bartosz Sawon, completing his 2‑year Aviation Maintenance degree.
- Cedric Green, graduating with a Bachelor's in Computer Engineering.
- Ean Chambers, graduating with a Bachelor's in Mechatronic Engineering.
The program recognized the trio for their academic achievements and contributions to Vaughn basketball.
Game Overview
Great Bay established momentum early, shooting 47.6 percent from the field and building a 39–30 halftime lead. Their disciplined ball movement and ability to generate high‑quality looks resulted in 30 made field goals and a well-balanced scoring effort.
Vaughn made numerous attempts to cut the lead in the second half, but the early deficit proved difficult to erase. The Phoenix struggled to string together consecutive stops, allowing Great Bay to capitalize on offensive rebounds and second‑chance opportunities. Despite knocking down seven threes and forcing 18 turnovers, Vaughn shot just 37.3 percent from the floor and 54.2 percent from the free‑throw line, limiting their ability to close the gap.
Key Performance
Nathaniel Edwards delivered a standout performance, scoring a game‑high 26 points on 9‑of‑19 shooting while hitting four threes. He added 13 rebounds, five assists, and five steals, turning in one of the best all‑around stat lines of his season.

Ean Chambers added 12 points and three assists while going 4‑of‑5 from the line.
Bartosz Sawon recorded 10 points, 11 rebounds, and three blocks, anchoring the interior in his Senior Day appearance.
Cedric Green contributed 10 points, four steals, and two assists, impacting the game on both ends.
Team Stats
Vaughn shot 22‑of‑59 (37.3%), including 7‑of‑18 (38.9%) from three, and 13‑of‑24 (54.2%) at the line. The Phoenix totaled 32 rebounds, 12 assists, and 12 steals.
Great Bay shot 47.6 percent (30‑of‑63) from the field and 7‑of‑24 from deep, out‑rebounding Vaughn 38–32 while recording 24 assists and forcing 17 turnovers.
