Warriors Record First Win Over Berkeley College in Program History
On Wednesday, September 21, the Vaughn College Warriors men's soccer team defeated the Berkeley College (NY) Knights 3-2 in thrilling fashion. The Knights won the Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (HVIAC) last season earning an automatic bid to the United States Collegiate Athletic Conference (USCAA). This marks the first time in program history that the Warriors have defeated Berkeley College in a soccer match.
Kevyn Davis (Brooklyn, NY) got the Warriors out to a fast start recording two assists in the first half. Jevoy James (Brooklyn, NY) and Denis Moshchenko (Brooklyn, NY) were the recipients of Davis's brilliant passes, each registering their first goals of the season.
Berkeley College would make a late first half push to regain momentum, scoring right before the break period. The Warriors held a 2-1 lead over the Knights at halftime.
Berkeley would score early in the second half to tie the game a 2-2. Ahkeem Bailey (Brooklyn,NY) scored the go ahead goal for the Warriors on a beautiful assist from Moshchenko.
Jaleel Johnson (Brooklyn, NY) Elias Dimitropoulos (Huntington, NY) and Hassan Shehoon (Brooklyn, NY) put together a solid defensive effort to secure the first victory of the season. Sophomore Hussein Saleh (Maspeth, NY) picked up his first victory starting behind the goal for the Warriors.
The Warriors start off the season 1-0 in the HVIAC. They will take on HIVAC opponent Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (ACPHS) on Saturday, September 24, at ACPHS.
