Warriors Finish Sixth in HVIAC Championships
FLUSHING, N.Y. – On Saturday, May 2, 2014, the Warriors men's tennis team competed in the Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (HVIAC) Championships at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. It was a rough day for the Warriors as they struggled in both singles and doubles matches. The Warriors bowed out early in doubles competition as each doubles pair failed to get out of the quarterfinals in Championships.
Freshmen Ahmed Aly (Astoria, NY) earned the only point for the Warriors, wining his number one singles quarterfinals match to advance into the semifinals round. Aly cruised through quarterfinals defeating Jeff Bonowiez (St. Joseph's College) by a score of 8-1. In the semifinals round Aly was bested by the number one singles HVIAC tournament champion Sergio Yarritu (Pratt Institute) 8-1. Yarritu finished the HVIAC Championships unblemished giving up only three points to his opponents.
The Warriors earned one point for the HVIAC Championships, finishing in sixth place overall.
