Warriors Shock Pratt in Conference Matchup
BROOKLYN, N.Y. - On Saturday, April 9, the Vaughn College Warriors men's tennis team earned their first win against Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (HVIAC) opponent Pratt Institute. The Warriors competed in six singles matches and three doubles matches, defeating the Cannoneers 5-4. This was the men's tennis team's first win over the Cannoneers in program history.
The Warriors were lead by junior Ahmed Aly (Astoria, NY) and sophomore Elias Dimitropoulos (Huntington, NY). Both players were crucial in the Warriors victory over the Cannoners. Aly competed in the number three singles position. He came back from an early 2-1 deficit to defeat Raghav Pahuja (Pratt) 10-2. Dimitropoulos competed in the number four singles position. Like Aly, Dimitropoulos struggled in the begining of his singles match. After some early errors, he was able to settle down and find his zone. He would go on to defeat Haotian Zhang (Pratt). Dimitropoulos's number four singles victory was the deciding win for the Warriors' 5-4 triumph over the Cannoneers.
The men's tennis team improves to 1-1 on the season. On Thursday, April 14, the Warriors will retun to action against HVIAC opponent, Berkeley College (BKLYN). The match is scheduled to begin at 9 p.m. at the United States Tennis Association (USTA) center.
